Freshman (2011)
A 6’2” middle from New Hampshire, Lyssa Winslow will be a huge blocking force for Principia. She hails from Londonberry High School’s where her volleyball team won back to back State Volleyball Championships. Lyssa received a Congressional Youth Award from U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte for completing the bronze and silver requirements of the National Teen Leadership Council, which is a multi-year servant leadership program, dedicated to fostering spiritual growth, leadership qualities, and a service approach to life. With Lyssa’s volleyball and leadership experience, she will surely contribute greatly to the success of Principia College volleyball.
Prep/Personal
#1 - When did you start playing volleyball and what level (Club, Y, middle school)
I started playing at home with my dad in 6th grade and started club in 7th.
#2 - what positions have you played and which one is your preference
I have been a middle hitter my entire career. It always has been my favorite.
#3 - have you been captain - when and how long?
No, my team has always had a number of exceptional players.
#4 - vb awards and honors (all-league, mvp)
No personal awards, but my team was New Hampshire state champions my junior year and Undefeated state champions my senior year.
#6 - Favorite kind of music?
My favorite kind of music is anything that I can dance to.
#7 – Favorite Food?
My favorite food would have to be pasta.
#8 – Favorite Movie?
I don’t have a favorite, but I love “The Sound of Music” and “Greece.”
#9 - If you were an animal, what would you be and why?
I would be a blue jay so I could visit my family and friends who don’t live close to me. Although, my favorite bird is a loon.
#10 - What is your favorite quote?
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
#11 - What do you think you will be doing and where in 10 years?
I hope to be in a strong relationship at whatever stage we are at and to be doing good for the world, possibly though politics.
#12 - Nickname and reason?
Lyss, my parents call me this sometimes, and my high school volleyball team brought it back.
#13 - what do you love best about the best sport in the world - VOLLEYBALL?
I love the intensity, every touch of the volleyball matters; but my favorite part is the team aspect, the reliance on my teammates in a game knowing that they will be there and have my back is so easy to continue off the court.
