Elsah, IL - The men opened up their season last night at home with an 89-51 loss to Rhodes College of the tough Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. It was the first game for both teams. The Rhodes College Lynx of Memphis, TN were lead by big men Reid Hamilton and Larry Cunningham with 22 and 16 points respectively.
Senior captain
Sam Douglas started off this season with a 20 point game while sophomore Justin McDonald added 16 points going 2-4 from beyond the 3 point arc. Principia only suited up 7 players and were without top player
Todd Zimmerman. Zimmerman is not enrolled at Principia this quarter but will be available for the remainder of the season as the new quarter begins.
Prin went into halftime down 40-23 on only 25% shooting from the floor. The Panthers kept the Lynx scoreless for the first two minutes of the second half with aggressive defense but struggled with their own scoring. The bigger Rhodes College team outrebounded Prin 58-31. Most of Rhodes points came off of offensive rebounds.
The Panthers get a chance for revenge during the Thanksgiving weekend when they travel to Memphis to play in the Rhodes College Classic. But before that, Principia heads to St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Tuesday, November 24 at 8pm and Missouri Baptist on Wednesday, November 25 at 7pm.
