Prin Wins With Buzzer Beater on the Road
59-58 over St. Louis College of Pharmacy
St. Louis, MO - Principia squeaked by St. Louis College of Pharmacy tonight on a putback shot by freshman
Stanley Beal with 1.7 seconds left giving the Panthers a 59-58 victory. The Panthers trailed most of the game and were down by as many as 8 points with 1:37 left in the game but with tenacious defense and clutch shooting, the men scratched out a "W."
A 3-pointer with less than 30 seconds left by senior
Stuart Waller was followed by a forced turnover by junior captain
Todd Zimmerman. After a Prin timeout with 12 seconds left to set up a final play, Zimmerman drove to the hoop barely missing his shot off the backboard but with less than 2 seconds left Beal was there with the offensive rebound and a quick put back shot giving Prin the 1 point victory in front of dozens of Panther fans who made the trip to the College of Pharmacy.
Prin trailed 30-23 at the half behind 32% shooting from the floor. The Panthers picked it up in the second half with tough defense forcing 19 turnovers and 43% shooting.
Prin only committed 11 turnovers but were outrebounded 48-35.
Senior captain
Sam Douglas lead Prin with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Beal ended up with 13 points and Waller 11. STLCOP was lead by Daniel Powell's 12 points.
All nine Prin players saw crucial action tonight, each contributing in their roll in tonight's victory. The Panthers go to 1-1 and play at Missouri Baptist tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 7pm.
