Unusual Poor Shooting Sends Prin to a 69-50 Loss to Visiting Spalding

Elsah, IL (January 25, 2010) Principia College Men's Basketball experienced their coldest shooting night of the year in a loss to SLIAC newcomer Spalding University of Louisville, KY.  The Eagles of Spalding experienced the other side of the coin enroute to a 69-50 victory over Prin.

Spalding shot 62.5% in the first half giving them a 38-23 locker room lead.  The Panthers, who lead the conference in 3-point shooting was dead cold tonight, shooting only 19% from beyond the arc.  Prin's Sam Douglas who leads the conference in 3-point shooting was just 1-11 from beyond the arc and teammate Stuart Waller who is second in the conference was 0-3 from three.  It was definitely an uncharacteriscally cold night for the Panther that made the difference tonight.  One bright spot is that Principia only committed 5 turnovers.  The last time Prin faced Spalding they lost 82-45.

Spalding was lead by Dewhon McAfee's 27 points.  18 of them came in the first half.  Spalding finished the game shooting 53% for the game.

Douglas, who came alive in the second half, lead Prin with 13 points.  Todd Zimmerman had 8 points and 11 rebounds.  Colin Angle finished with 12 points.

Prin falls to 2-7 in conferenc play while Spalding improves to 5-4.  Principia hosts Lincoln Christian Thursday night at 8p in a non-conference game.
