Men's soccer manages a barren draw against the Gorlocks

ELSAH, ILL. -- A beautiful Saturday afternoon on their home field ended in disappointment for the Panthers, as they only managed a point at home against Webster University in an evenly contested barren draw. Neither the visitors nor the home side were willing to stamp their authority on the match.

The Panthers did well to control the tempo in the opening minutes of play and almost got the go ahead goal however Paul Sanderude was in an offside position. Another goalmouth scramble went begging as the Panthers failed to poke the ball in the net. The last 15 minutes of the half belonged to the Gorlocks, as they finally managed to control the tempo of the game but like the Panthers, their final touches went begging.

The second half was much a repeat of the first half with neither team establishing firm control of the game. Another scrambling opportunity in the six was cleared away by the Gorlocks to keep the Panthers at bay. In the first overtime the Gorlocks got the clearest chance of the match as Kevin Hagenlocher's attempted back pass to the goalie was intercepted with 2 minutes left. The attempt however went wide giving the Panther's new life.

The second overtime was as fruitless as the other three periods to mark the first back-to-back goalless draw of the season. Samuel Thomas put on another strong performance in goal to earn his 3rd shutout of the season. The Panthers now find themselves in a fix needing to win their remaining two conference match-ups in order to have a chance at hosting the SLIAC tournament as a second seed. The Panthers are home again on Tuesday night against Blackburn College in a non-conference match-up @ 7:00 PM.
