Principia volleyball secures win against Eurkea in three

ELSAH, ILL. -- While both Principia women and men's soccer teams sparked the night at home with their wins against Blackburn, Principia volleyball completed the victorious night at home with a 3-0 win against Eureka. Not only did Principia keep their number five spot over Eureka's number six spot in conference standings, but they played one of their most fearless matches of the season. They started strong, kept errors at a minimum, blocked successfully, worked together on defensive movement, and ran their offense boldly.
After Principia gained the lead in game one 6-3, they kept the lead until the end score of 25-16. In game two, Eureka tried to inch their way into the game as they tied the score 21-21, but when Kiersten Andersen stepped up to the service line, she served until Principia finished the game 25-21. In game three, Principia started strong with a 4-1 lead and then a 9-2 lead. After Eureka closed the scoring gap to 16-18, Principia responded to push for the win, ending the game 25-19.
Throughout the match, Principia players put forth their best effort. Roxy Busch came alive at the net, blocking Eureka constantly and having four blocks that gained points. Sarah Howard hit fiercely, earning 13 kills with only three errors. Devin Sinner had five kills with an eye for the open spots in Eureka's defense. Christine Nacewicz put down four blocking assists, Tara Edwards hustled to earn 22 assists, and Isabelle Tetu led the defense with 23 digs.
Principia plays Fontbonne and MacMurray next in a quad match at home this Saturday at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM.
