Panther Volleyball grabs two victories

ELSAH, ILL. -- Principia volleyball seamlessly played their game today, prevailing over Fontbonne and MacMurray with two 3-0 wins. In their inspirational talk before the game, they agreed to just enjoy the game of volleyball and that is exactly what they did. Players went after the game with no regrets, playing disciplined on defense, and smart on offense.

Against Fontbonne (1-9), Principia took charge from the beginning, keeping their hits error free. In game one, Devin Sinner hit her strongest game ever, killing the five balls she was set.  Roxy Busch's deep serves kept Principia on a roll with the score rising 16-15 to 24-15, allowing Principia to win on side-out, 25-16. Roxy Busch's serves continued to be unstoppable in game two as the score went from 7-7 to 14-7.  Outside hitters, Kiersten Andersen and Sarah Howard, dominated Fontbonne's defense with 11 kills as game two finished 25-19. Game three was also a success for Principia, the score 25-20 with Principia leading the whole way.

Aware of MacMurray's two huge middle blockers, Principia fought to keep their blocks steady, hits quick, and defense ready. Principia's defense only had two digging errors the whole match while the offense succeeded with 35 kills, Tara Edwards earning 28 assists. Devin Sinner and Sarah Howard were the most effective hitters in the match, both earning 11 kills. The scores for the match: 25-14, 25-19, and 25-14.

Overall, these passionate players demonstrated their progress this season as they swept the day. Devin Sinner finished the day with 18 kills from the middle, Sarah Howard had 21 kills, and Kiersten Andersen had 22 kills. Roxy Bush served 29 balls today with five aces. Tara Edwards had 64 assists for the day, and Isabelle Tetu earned 23 digs. 

The volleyball team will travel to Lincoln, Illinois on Tuesday, October 26th to face the Red Lions at 7:00 PM.
