Principia loses two tough matches

FULTON, MO. -- At the home court of the Westminster Blue Jays, the Lady Panthers fell to two of the top teams in conference, losing 0-3 in both. Coming into today, the match against Westminster (9-6 in SLIAC) was a big determining factor for the conference tournament seating between Principia and Westminster as they were tied at third. Westminster brought a solid game to beat Principia. They not only had an unyielding defense, but their offense moved Principia all over the court with their hitting distribution and placement. They'd switch from hitting on the outside to the right side and back to the outside, while hitting deep, short, line, cross, and tip, which hindered Principia's ability to play in system.  Principia struggled with passing, which turned their offense one dimensional – usually having one hitter available. However, Principia had moments of great hustle and spurts of momentum. Ally Read and Isabelle Tetu dove for some great saves, Tara Edwards ran down passes all over the court, and Devin Sinner continuously played fiery in the front row. Also, Kiersten Andersen led the offense with 10 kills.

Against Greenville (14-1 in SLIAC), Principia struggled to stay connected between their front row and back row, as they defended against Greenville's big hitters. Principia blockers had good touches on the ball to help the back row, but Greenville's outsides continuously found the seams in Principia's defense to terminate on. Principia found the most success when they spread Greenville's defense like Westminster had done to them in the previous game. They also earned 100% in serving. Ashley Riesen was an impact player coming into the game with bold serving and a sparking energy. After a hard fought match, Principia lost 0-3. Principia ended with 17 kills total against Greenville's big blockers and scrappy defense.

Principia now looks ahead to their senior night on Tuesday, November 2nd where they will face the Blackburn Beavers at home.
