ELSAH, ILL. -- On a warm homecoming weekend, the men's soccer team found a way to get past the hungry Spalding Eagles 2-1 in an evenly contested SLIAC conference match up in Elsah, Ill.. The Eagles got on the scoreboard with two minutes left in the first half off a well struck ball just inside the attacking half over a back peddling
Samuel Thomas.
As the second half resumed, the Panthers showed a bit of hunger pressing the Eagles and earning a foul just inside the attacking midfield.
Elliot Rybak's resulting far post free kick was met by a rising
Spencer Brown who steered his header to the middle of the box leaving
Paul Sanderude with the simplest of put away headers to level the scores. The Panthers continued their quest for the win and
McGuire Semnacher's audacious take at the top of the 18 hit the cross bar and bounced across the goal line for the game winner. The rest of the match was back and forth with both teams struggling to dominate possession. The Panthers now get ready for another conference match up against Fontbonne University on Tuesday night at 8:00 PM.
