(February 11, 2010) Elsah, IL - Principia College hosted the second best team in the SLIAC tonight hoping to get revenge on a 93-67 loss earlier this year at Eureka but fell short losing 75-62.
Eureka bosts the two top scorers in the league, Michael Zasada and Kameron Bell. And they did their job tonight, each scoring 21 points apiece. Prin got the first lead of the game by getting the opening tip off and immediately hitting a 3 by Colin Angle who finished with a season high 17 points. But Eureka quickly answered with their own 3 from Bell. After that it was off to the races. A couple of lead changes then all of the sudden turned into a 25-11 lead by Eureka. But Prin went on a run of its own closing the gap to 40-31 at the half.
Principia remained in the hunt throughout the second half until about 3:30 left. The Panthers played a close second half despite only shooting 27% in the final half. With a little more than 10:00 left Prin went on a 5-point run closing Eureka's advantage to just 6 points and that's where it stayed for a while until about 4:00 left when Eureka began to put it away.
Todd Zimmerman added 14 points and 5 assists. Despite an off shooting night for Sam Douglas, the senior captain made up for it with a game-high 13 rebounds. The Panthers only committed 11 turnovers for the night.
The Panthers fall to 2-10 in conference play and Eureka improved to 9-4. Principia hosts Greenville College this Saturday at 3pm.
