(Feb. 2, 2010) Jacksonville, IL - The Panthers stayed within striking distance with about 5:30 left until MacMurray College went on a mini-run to defeat Prin 78-60. The Highlanders of MacMurray are currently th hottest team in the SLIAC. The last time these two teams met Prin had a chance to tie records with them but MacMurray beat them in that game by just 8 points and has only lost one game since then. MacMurray is a solid second in conference play at 8-3 while Prin drops to 2-8.
The Highlanders went into half time with a 30-28 lead. Prin came out strong in the beginning of the second half to regain the lead at 36-32 on a 3-pointer by Sam Douglas with 18:50 left in the game. For the next 7 minutes Prin kept within 3 points and then MacMurray went on an 8 point run and maitained an 8 to 10 point lead until about 5 minutes left when they began to build on their lead and separate from Prin on 62% shooting from the field. Prin only shot 33% for the game while the Highlanders connected on 46% of their shots, 50% from beyond the arc.
The bigger MacMurray team also won the rebounding war 46-36. Jerel Roberston, and league leader Marc Randle had 14 and 13 rebounds apiece. Prin's Sam Douglas, who only played 26 minutes due to early foul trouble pulled down 11 rebounds along with his 10 points earning him his second double double in as many nights. Douglas had 32 points and 10 rebounds the night before in Prin's win against St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
Todd Zimmerman lead Prin scoring with 19 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocked shots. Prin had two more players in scoring double figures in addition to Douglas and Zimmerman. Stuart Waller and Stanley Beal had 13 points and 11 points respectively.
Prin heads to Carlinville, IL to face Blackburn this Saturday at 3pm. The last time the two teams faced Prin came away with a 17-point victory, leading by as many as 28 at one point.
