ELMHURST, ILL. -- The Principia Panthers suffer a heartbreaking 1-0 loss at the feet of the Elmhurst Blue Jays in the 100th minute. It was a well-fought game by both sides. However, in the 10th minute of extra time, Elmhurst's forward Valerie Wesley put the ball in the back of the net just beyond the reach of keeper
Mel Stein to give Elmhurst the victory.
Despite the goal, the Panther defensive line -
Lauren Wienecke,
Kelly Byquist,
Julianna Mangelsdorf, and
Cristina Post - played extremely well. Stein kept the Blue Jays scoreless for ninety-nine minutes making eight saves. In the midfield,
Carlie Sanderude, making her colligate début, won the majority of the 50-50 balls for the Panthers and had help controlling the flow of the game with strong play by
Megan Carothers and
Hayley MacWilliams. The Panthers struggled to find the opposing goal with only two shots on frame. Despite the statistics, Principia controlled the ball for the majority of the game and have shown much improvement in their play.
The Panthers continue their Chicago weekend trip playing North Park University tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
