Principia College defeats Eureka College in women’s soccer 7-0

EUREKA, ILL. -- Principia College defeats Eureka College in women's soccer 7-0 behind the strong play of Alicia Girbes-Pierce who tallied one goal and four assists. Principia found the back of the net for the first time in the 8th minute as a Girbes-Pierce cross off a corner kick was met at the far post by a Carlie Sanderude volley. The Panther's continued their scoring ways through the first half with goals from Girbes-Pierce, Lauren Furbush, and an unbelievable blast from Hanna Mehring that screamed past the Eureka goalkeeper on a one-time through ball from 25 yards out.

In the second half Principia closed out the scoring with two goals by Hayley MacWilliams. Goalkeepers Mel Stein, Murilla King, and Katie Clark shared the team shutout.

Sanderude had a great game filling in on defense today and was awarded with our teams “Lunch Pail” player of the game. Girbes-Pierce, was awarded today's “Golden Boot” (in Ali's case also known as “The Big Toe”) for her overall offensive performance.

Moving forward, Principia carries a 4-2 record into Tuesday's non-conference matchup against Blackburn College at 4:00pm in Carlinville, ILL.
