Elash, ILL-- The Principia women's soccer team earned their 4-1 win over Fontbonne in the last regular season game of the year. The win gave the Principia women the title of undefeated SLIAC Regular Season Champions. The team won all eight of their conference games and outscored their SLIAC opponents 44-4!
On Saturday the scoring started late as Principia was unable to score a goal in the first half of the game. However, the 0-0 half time score did not hold for long, because
Lauren Wienecke demonstrated her aerial dominance converting a corner kick by
Rachel Publicover three minutes after the kick-off (48
nd minute). Senior
Alicia Girbes-Pierce scored the next three goals for Principia earning her a hat-trick on the day. Girbes-Pierce scored her first goal with an assist from Publicover in the 54
th minute, her second goal off an assist from defender Cristiana Post in the 55
th minute, and her third goal was unassisted in the 65
th minute.
The first seeded Principia women's team will play the fourth seeded Fontbonne again this Thursday for the SLIAC semi-final game. The winner will advance to the SLIAC Tournament Championship and play either second seeded Webster or third seeded Greenville on Saturday afternoon.
