ORLANDO, FLA. -- In an exciting and competitive match Principia shows what they can accomplish as individual players and as a team. While the Panthers lost the match overall, individually each player competed hard.
At #1 doubles Corbitt/Sanderude once again dominated their opponents with an easy 8-2 win. This dynamic duo played some amazing points with hard hit volleys, strategically placed ground strokes, and incredible defense.
#1 singles Carlie Sanderude maintained her poise in a close match, where she went ahead 6-1 in the first set. When her opponent turned up her game, Sanderude fought back to lose the second set 5-7 (7-9). Ultimately Sanderude put the game away with her consistency and smart play in a 10-8 tiebreaker.
#Courtney Banko at 4 singles had an amazing comeback after going down 1-6 in the first set. Banko turned around the 1-6 lose into a 6-3 win in the second set and a 10-7 tiebreaker. Banko said of the captivating match “I just decided I was tired of losing, I didn't want the top players to carry our team”.
The final win of the day for Principia was #5 singles, Jasmine Carcieri. Carcieri competed closely with her opponent from the start, losing 5-7 in the first set. In the second set she kicked it into a higher gear not missing any shots, ending with a 6-0 second set and a 10-7 tiebreaker.
The Lady Panthers can only build on this solid foundation for their match tomorrow against Oglethorpe University a tough team from Atlanta, Ga.
