Softball sweeps doubleheader vs Stephens College

ELSAH, ILL. -- More good things showed up in todays double header against Stephens College winning game one 7-4 and game two 12-4. Confidence continues to grow and with it comes improved play.

The early part of game one was close with both teams missing some opportunities to score. Prin actually looked a little flat in the early innings and allowed Stephens to take a three run lead in the top of the fourth. That seemed to wake the team up and Prin answered with six runs in the bottom of the fourth and added another in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead into the seventh. Devon Harrison put Stephens out in order to seal the win after pitching another solid game.

Eight out of the nine starters collected hits showing a vastly improved balance in the lineup. Devon helped her own cause with a good offensive day going one for two, her hit being a triple. She had two walks and scored a run.  Jocelyn Shoemake was one for four with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Bekah Charlston was one for two with a walk and scored a run. Casey Lee had a big day too going two for three with a double a run scored and a stolen base.  Andie Raffles was one for three with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. Alicia Girbes-Pierce was also one for three with a walk and scored two runs as well as collecting an RBI. Both Marina Whitney and Christine Nacewicz were two for four with an RBI.

Prin went into game two and picked up where they had left off in game one scoring one in the first and another five in the second. They got a little sloppy and lost some focus letting Stephens back into the game with three runs in the third. The bats answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. After that the Panthers played with much less intensity for a couple of innings but did manage to pick things up again in the fifth with three more runs. They got the one run they needed in the bottom of the sixth to mercy rule Stephens. Andie Raffles went the distance for the win, getting stronger as the game went on.

Just like game one, eight of the nine starters collected hits. Andie Raffles continued her hot streak going three for five with a home run, a double, a stolen base, two RBI's, and scored three runs. Alicia Girbes-Pierce was two for four with an RBI and she too scored three runs. Marina Whitney was three for three with a walk, an RBI and scored two runs. Devon Harrison was two for four with two RBI's, and Christine Nacewicz had a huge day going three for four and driving in four runs.  Karlin Krishnaswami was two for three, had a sacrifice bunt, and scored a run. Both Casey Lee and Jessy MacMullin were one for four, both scoring a run with Jessy earning an RBI.

Todays games really showed what this team can do when it focuses and plays hard. They were a little inconsistent with their intensity and when they figure out how to stay on task for seven innings they are going to be dangerous. We have certainly seen a huge improvement in this team over the last few weeks. Well done Lady Panthers!
