Softball faced tough losses to Eureka
Principia College Athletics
ELSAH, ILL. -- Principia loses to Eureka in its first game 5-1. This one was a tough loss as it really was a close game. Principia came out and played its best game of the season and deserved a better result. The Panthers bats were crushing the ball almost every inning but they all ended up being right at a defensive player. On the other side of the diamond, many of Eureka's hits were not well hit but they found holes. Sometimes the game really seems unfair but that is the way it is.
Andie Raffles had a great game. She led off the first inning with a solo home run and followed that up with a double in the 6th.
Marina Whitney went one for three and pounded two line drives for outs in her other at bats.
Ali Girbes-Pierce had a stolen base and
Jessy MacMullin had another great game at 3rd base.
Game two was close for a while as Principia came out swinging the bats again but still lost 11-3. A pattern of letting the other team score right after Prin scores happened again. Prin scored in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th innings but allowed Eureka to answer with runs of their own in each of those innings. The gas tank appeared to run dry late in the game and Eureka ended the game in their half of the 6th inning.
The team defense in both game one and two was the best it had been all season and this was the best offensive attack the team has produced yet this year. Things are looking up.
Devon Harrison went two for four and
Marina Whitney had a stolen base.
Christine Nacewicz was two for three with a double and a stolen base.
Jocelyn Shoemake had a big game going two for two with a walk and two RBI's.
Bekah Charlston was one for two and
Casey Lee went one for one with two walks, a double and a stolen base.
