Softball finds success vs MacMurray during today's doubleheader
Principia College Athletics
ELSAH, ILL. -- The progress we witnessed in a couple of solid games on Saturday continued today with Principia sweeping MacMurray in a double header with the first game's final score of 11-2. The team came out with guns blazing and scored two runs in the first inning and broke a pattern by holding MacMurray scoreless in the next inning. The offense finally broke out with a huge eight run inning in the fourth to all but put the game away. It was a complete game for the team with there being good defense, good offense and solid pitching from Devon Harrison. A great game!
Andie Raffles continued to produce at the top of the line up going two for four, scored two runs and stole another base. Both Marina Whitney and Christine Nacewicz went two for three with Marina scoring two runs and earning an RBI and Christine had two doubles, a run scored, and two RBI's. Casey Lee, Jessy MacMullin, Bekah Charlston and Ali Girbes-Pierce all went one for three. Jessy had a double and two RBI's.
The Lady Panthers went into game two full of confidence after such a strong showing in game one and won 6-5. They started out strongly and built up a six run lead by the end of the third inning but then lost their intensity and began to get sloppy in their defensive and offensive efforts. To MacMurray's credit they never quit and started chipping away at Prin's lead with two runs in the fourth and fifth and one more in the sixth. Prin's defense stiffened and managed to hang on in the seventh with a sharp play by Jessy MacMullin and Devon Harrison to pick off a runner at second for the second out of the inning effectively ending MacMurray's threat. Andie Raffles kept battling on the mound and earned the win. Ali Girbes-Pierce continued to prove she may be the best short stop in the Conference with several great plays.
Andie Raffles just keeps hitting the ball and again went two for four with a double and yet another stolen base. Marina Whitney was two for three with a double and a run scored. The outstanding offensive player in this game was Casey Lee as she went two for three with a sacrifice bunt, a triple, a stolen base, a run scored, and an RBI. Jocelyn Shoemake went one for three, had a walk and scored two runs. Jessy MacMullin went for 3 with a double, a stolen base and 2 RBI's and a stolen base. Marianna Distel was 1 for 3 and also scored a run.
