Women's tennis remains undefeated with a win vs Westminster 8-1

FULTON, MO -- The Principia Women's Tennis team defeated Westminster 8-1 on Friday. The match was the toughest conference match so far and required the players to dig deep and execute what they have been practicing all season.  Sarah Corbitt returned to the line-up after a week break, and she and Carlie Sanderude were in excellent form as they routed Westminster's #1 doubles team 8-0. The strong start in doubles by the Lady Panther #1, Sanderude and #2, Corbitt, singles players continued into their singles matches where they each disposed of their opponents 6-2, 6-1.  Sanderude defeated Sarah Heeter the only other undefeated #1 singles player in the conference.

All of the Panthers singles players are undefeated in conference play and the team has a 35-1 record for singles and doubles matches in conference play. Freshman, Hilary Frandsen played #3 singles and continued her winning streak, but she had to play smart steady tennis to close out her improving opponent 6-1, 7-5. Marianna Hronek, #4 singles, closed out her opponent 6-0, 6-1 playing steady tennis. The #5 and #6 singles players had to stay focused and play steady as each of their opponents rallied after the first set.

Caroline Korthals and Haillie Stock (pictured above) continued their winning doubles streak closing out their opponent 8-3. Both players also have conference singles winning streaks; Korthals played #7 singles against Westminster and won by hitting deep forceful groundstrokes that forced her opponent into errors.  Stock, #8 singles, played an approach and volley game and won many of her points with overheads.

The Principia players are preparing for the individual conference tournament that takes place next Friday and Saturday, April 15th and 16th at Creve Court tennis center in Saint Louis. Come out and support our players as they attempt to sweep the individual singles and doubles flights.
