JACKSONVILLE, ILL. --The gold and blue swept the day, winning 3-0 against both MacMurray and Westminster. With focused and well rounded play, Principia kept a nice rhythm and movement together. At the end of the day, players and coaches recognized the harmonious play. They had never felt so united as they competed.
Against MacMurray, Principia made a couple errors in the beginning, but their focused play only added to their confidence as they continuously pulled and spread MacMurrays defense. Principia served hard,
Savanna Sprague leading servers with six aces, and hitters killed the open spots,
Jessyca MacMullin ending the match with the best hitting percentage-- .667. Principia won with scores 25-20, 25-12, and 25-7.
In the second match, Principia kept their stride as they continued to mix up their offense by using angles, picking apart, and pounding Westminster defenders.
Tara Edwards grounded Principia's play with her competitive maturity –serving hard, defending all out, and running the varied offense while being an offensive threat herself. Primary hitters,
Kiersten Andersen,
Tess Rountree, and
Christine Nacewicz built on their multi-demensional offense with smart, strong, and error-free hits. Andersen had a breakout day as she hit boldly. The team completed forty-three kills with only eight errors. After fighting hard and together, Principia beat Westminster with scores 25-18, 27-25, and 25-18.
Assistant coach Hannah Richards comments, "Today was very exciting for us because everything we've been working on came together beautifully."
