Women's soccer beats Rose Hulman 2-0

ELSAH, ILL.--The Principia Women's soccer team earned their second victory of the season tonight against Rose Hulman. Rachel Publicover scored both of the Principia goals. Hungry out of the gate, Publicover tallied her first goal in the 6th minute of the game from an acute angle inside the box. Her second goal came in the 69th minute when Hayley Cooke beat her marker, took the ball to the base line and crossed the ball across the face of the goal. The ball ricocheted off of a defender and Publicover who, with her back to the goal, turned and blasted the ball into the net.

“Tonight we won, because we played together. There was a great sense of team unity and communication throughout the whole match,” commented Coach Semnacher. Alicia Girbes-Pierce continued to do a great job working together with Publicover and controlling the pace of the game. Senior Lauren Wienecke found herself in the middle of the park in the second half of the game when she was moved up to a central midfielder position. She and fellow captain Haley MacWilliams did well to win balls and keep possession of the ball. Other notable efforts were by outside midfielders Kristen Crandall and Nadine Marczi who helped spread the field and combine well with the players around them. The shutout was shared by last week's SLIAC player of the week Murilla King and freshman Torie DeNicholas.

The team's “Golden Boot Award” went to Publicover for her goals and the team's “Lunch Pale Award” went to Cooke for her hard work and ability continually break down the flank. The women's team will be looking for their next victory this Saturday at 1:00PM against visiting North Central College.
