Prin volleyball splits with Westminster

Box Score ELSAH, ILL. -- Principia knew Westminster was looking to avenge Prin's early season win in tonight's rematch, and Westminster was successful. It was a back and forth four game match, with the key elements of the win being serving tough, knowing when to hit your kaboom ball, and being stable competitors.

Prin usually kills 33% of the balls and tonight they missed the mark with only 28% kills. Prin chose the wrong time to hit their kaboom ball, hitting into a few too many Westminster blocks. Prin did serve tough, pushing Westminster out of system a lot, but the Panthers consistently let tips or balls off the block drop giving Westminster points they did not earn. Both teams struggled to be stable competitors. Both teams' serving caused more than a few mental lapses for their opponents, and both teams lost focus for chunks of points. Prin didn't make Westminster earn this win. When the time to compete for the end of the games came, Prin made the mistakes so Westminter didn't have to “take it”.  Hopefully this match will set the mental stage for a gritty rest of the season!

Christine Nacewicz was tough from the service line with 3 aces, and served the ball 30 times! Sarah Howard was following the game plan well picking and pounding effectively as a hitter. She terminated a season high 11 kills with only 2 errors out of 30 swings.  Tess Rountree put down 22 kills, and Kiersten Andersen added 9, Christine Nacewicz 6, and Sierra Sprague 5. Summer Switzer (24 digs), Kiersten (22 digs), and Molly Moser (19 digs) were tough defensively for the Panthers.
