Box Score 3 |
Box Score 4 Principia volleyball traveled to Augustana to compete against some tough teams in the Pumpkin Bash. The Panthers played Simpson first, and struggled offensively. There were too many errors to compete for a "w", but the Panthers fought hard until the end. Prin kept two of the games within 5 points trying to make up for a lack of offense with scrappy defense.
Prin took the court against William Penn next, and had the match they have been looking for - gritty and graceful. The points were hard fought, and both teams were going after it. The Panthers showed patience and perseverance as they fought to a 27-25, 24-26, 28-26, 25-14 victory.
Tess Rountree was on fire putting down 22 kills and picking up 20 digs. It was a well rounded offensive effort with 11 kills from
Kiersten Andersen, seven from
Christine Nacewicz, and six from
Sierra Sprague. Sierra had three solo blocks, and Tess, Christine, and
Jessica Bushong each had two.
Savanna Sprague led the team defensively with 22 digs.
Saturday the team started out playing Wartburg, who currently holds the #11spot in the nation. Prin competed hard and scored more with each game they played. Tess served tough balls down the sideline scoring a pair of aces, and she added 13 digs and 9 kills.
Prin finished up playing host Augustana in front of a very vocal home crowd. Tess was quite a presence at the net with 5 solo blocks, and Christine added two solos as well. Tess and Kiersten led the offense with nine kills a piece, and only 1 error each.
Summer Switzer was very effective at the service line, forcing Auggie out of system with aggressive and accurate serving. Prin worked to keep rallies going by playing good defense , hoping they could terminate better off of defensive transition. Although Prin had some nice runs, Auggie's tough serving and solid, patient play held control over the match.
The Panthers celebrate their seniors
Kiersten Andersen and
Sarah Howard at Hay Fieldhouse as they take on Webster University Tuesday at 7pm.
