Box Score Tonight, very cold and rainy, Aurora University travelled down from Chicago to play Principia. The Panthers played well with high pressure, dangerous runs, and a lot of good foot work on the ball. Defensively, the Panthers were tested by the Spartans' three front runners who constantly tried to sneak through unsuspected. Sanna Ahman, the Panther goalie, was great at coming off her line and saving almost every ball that came her way.
In the first half the Panthers were able to maintain possession and eventually score a goal, by senior,
Kelly DeWindt. In the second half it was more difficult for the Panthers to connect their passes creating a lot of 50/50 situations. The Spartans scored midway through the second half but neither team was able to score another in regulation time. The first ten minute over time began and the Panthers had a few chances to score, but in the final two minutes the Spartans capitalized on a cross across the box ending the game at 2-1. It was a tough loss for the Panthers since they had been able to control the ball so well in the beginning. The Panthers will take on Wesminister tomorrow and are ready for another opportunity to play.
Team awards were given after the game,
Kelly DeWindt received the Golden Boot for scoring the Panthers' only goal. And Sanna Ahman was awarded the Lunch Pail for her tenacity and composure in the goal.
