Box Score ELSAH, ILL. -- The Principia men's soccer skid to their seventh loss of the season when they dropped a close encounter 1-0 to Illinois Wesleyan. The Panthers welcomed a Titan side that came into the match ranked 8
th in the region and were always going to be a handful. The game was a see-saw affair that saw both teams fight to gain the upper hand in the proceedings.
McGuire Semnacher was unlucky earlier in the match when his opportune shot found the right post.
Gustavo Batista would enter the fray when a cross from the right flank found him open on the back post, inside the six but, his second touch deserted him in front of the net. The resilient panther side kept fighting through the first half but were outpaced by the Titians, who had the edge in possession in the first half. Six minutes into the second half, the Titans would break the deadlock as they capitalized on a poor clearance by the Panther custodian which, they picked up before thumping into the empty net.
The Panthers continued fighting through the rest of the match and had the better of chances in the game with Semnacher breaking through on a pass from Alejandro Ramirez Jasso but, the keeper did well to par the ball for a corner. The panthers would heap the pressure on the Titans but failed to capitalize on any of their chances, with Batista coming closest again when a shot by
Nate Waters ran diagonally across the face of goal begging for a final touch. Another hard fought battle for a group still fighting for that elusive win. The panthers continue their home stand on Tuesday as they welcome Culver-Stockton in town for a 7pm matchup in Elsah, Il.
