Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The volleyball team competed against Westminster and Fontbonne at a Quad match hosted by Webster. Westminster is a strong team that Prin split with last year. They are a poised defensive team with an offense that can wreak havoc, so Prin knew they had their work cut out for them. I'll let the score speak for the match. Principia won in five: 25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 23-25, 15-11. Yep – it was quite a match that took just over two hours. The highlight of the match was that the team bonded together to grab a win out of a mess. Prin had challenges all over the place, but different people stepped up at different times to keep the match alive. After losing games three and four, Prin could have thrown in the towel, but they came out on fire in game five! Prin was leading 10-3, but of course it wasn't that easy! Westminster fought back to 12-9, and then 13-11. Whew – but Prin put an exclamation point on the win with a blasting kill from Middle Blocker
Sierra Sprague. Prin's offensive effort was quite balanced – with contributions from the outside, middle and right side.
Summer Switzer led the defensive effort with 28 digs, but
Kiersten Andersen,
Tess Rountree, and
Molly Moser all added 20 or more as well!
Thirty minutes later Prin took the court for the second time this season against Fontbonne. Fontbonne was ready to fight. They were scrappy on defense, and they had some really nice connections on offense. And… Prin was still struggling all over the court. But….the team was still helping each other refocus and keep the game simple. This day was truly a team milestone. The moral of the story today was – just keep playing and working together! Four games later Prin had a season sweep over Fontbonne. Prin realized they had some challenges, so they kept the ball flying and had to be patient for kills. The team kept their hitting errors at 8%, and combined for 55 kills. It was another well rounded offensive effort with
Tess Rountree leading the charge with 21 kills and hitting .475.
Kiersten Andersen put together a bold comeback after a challenging Westminster match – 10 kills hitting .333.
Sarah Howard added seven kills,
Sierra Sprague six,
Savanna Sprague five, and
Christine Nacewicz four.
