Women’s soccer defeats Eureka in first conference game.

Box Score ELSAH, ILL. -- The Principia Panthers hosted the Eureka Red Devils today for their first conference game of the season and finished with a decided victory of 10-0. The Panthers came out slow in the first half, but after 14 minutes of play senior, Rachel Publicover broke open the flood gates with a long chip over the Eureka keeper's hands. Only a minute later junior, Hayley Cooke put in another goal with an assist by senior Kelly DeWindt. With great composure on the ball, Kelly Byquist, for her first collegiate goal, scored the third goal for the Panthers, and Hayley MacWilliams the fourth. In the 35th minute of play, transfer, Jacey Bowers plowed through Eureka defenders and chipped the keeper, also marking her first goal with Principia soccer. Within the following minute senior, Kristen Crandall put in the sixth goal for Principia, and in the 40th minute freshman, Justine Roy scored the seventh. At half time, Principia was up 7-0 and Principia goalie, Murilla King had yet to touch the ball.

In the second half it was difficult for the Panthers to find the back of the net. The defensive line was stringing passes together, and Olivia Ikuma, Kenzie Keller, and Georgia Mae Hurley were making great overlapping runs to get into the attack, but the 8th goal didn't come until the last fourteen minutes of play when freshman, Gabby Martin touched the ball passed the keeper from a cross by Bowers. Four minutes later, Kristen Crandall put in her second goal of the game with a beautiful shot from 25 yards out. Sophomore, Kenzie Keller scored the tenth and final goal for Principia.

Team awards were given after the game. The Golden Boot was given to Kristen Crandall for scoring two goals during the game, and the Lunch Pale was awarded to Jacey Bowers for all her hard work in the center mid.
