Women's Basketball Falls to Asbury College

The Principia Panthers women's basketball team traveled to Wilmore, Kentucky to face a very good opponent in Asbury College. Asbury is a NAIA institution and was able to use their athleticism to gain the early 15-0 advantage, and used their depth to put away the Panthers.

After falling behind 15-0, Karina Olsen stepped up and took a charge that got the Panthers going. Summer Switzer followed that by grabbing an offensive rebound and getting Principia on the board with a mid-range jumper. The Panthers fought hard and closed the gap to 20-9 on an aggressive post move by Olsen, but that was as close as the Panthers made the score the rest of the night.

Principia was able to show marked improvement in their offensive continuity from their game against St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Panthers were able to run their offensive sets, and also had some great inside-out passing that compromised the Asbury defense.

Spencer Randolph hit two three-pointers before the half to cut the score to 62-30, and give the Panthers some momentum for the second half.

Coming into the second half, Principia wanted to improve all aspects of their game. Although they started off slow, Rachel Perea was able to get the Panthers going with a couple of 3 pointers as well as some nice drives. Although the final score was 111-60, Principia should be proud of the way they competed in the game.

Notable stat lines for the Panthers include 20 points apiece for Spencer Randolph and Rachel Perea. Summer Switzer chipped in with 11 points as well. Perea and Switzer finished with 9 rebounds each to lead the Panthers.

Principia plays against Midway College tomorrow at 2:00 PM EST.
