Panthers sweep Rust College

Box Score HOLLY SPRINGS, MS.-- The Principia College Panthers traveled to Holly Springs, MS to play a doubleheader against Rust College. The Panthers emerged victorious winning game one 16 to 11 and 11 to 3 in the nightcap. In game one sophomore Gavin Thomas got the start and picked up the victory going 4 innings, striking out 6, and allowing only one earned run. Robert Barnacle pitched in relief and Scott Ross came in to close out the game in the 7th. Offensively the Panthers notched 15 hits and several Panthers had multiple hits. Gavin Thomas and Dallen Russell both had 3 hits, and Jake Elmore, Spencer Clevenger and Christian Thomas all contributed with two hits apiece.

Scott Ross started game two for the Panthers throwing 5 strong inning allowing 3 runs while striking out 5. The Panthers got a strong defensive effort from several outfielders who made diving plays. The Panthers hit the ball solidly up and down the lineup and were aggressive on the bases taking advantage of several miscues by Rust College.  Jake Elmore continued to swing a hot bat collecting two hits. Wiley Jones and Christian both contributed with double. The Panthers will look to build off the wins and work hard on improving in all areas on the spring trip, which will feature 6 more games over the next 7 days.
