Box Score 2 St. Louis, Webster Groves
Webster – 8 Principia – 0
This wasn't a particularly good outing for the team. They were flat, not a lot of energy, certainly not much excitement or commitment to playing well in this game and it showed. Webster is always tough and they systematically mercy ruled Principia in game 1. For Principia to have a chance of winning against a team like Webster they have to play their best and that means total commitment and effort.
The less than expected effort showed up most glaringly on offense where
Christine Nacewicz was the only player to get a hit. There were 7 strike outs in this 5 inning game. Not good! The score really was indicative of the difference in effort of the two teams.
Webster – 11 Principia – 3
Game 2 was an improvement on game 1. There certainly was a better effort and it showed. The team managed to score leadoff hitter
Casey Lee in the top of the first inning to give them the boost they needed. Webster, being a strong team answered with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1
st to take back the momentum. While there were not physical errors that show up in the score book, Principia made a number of mistakes due to hesitation or throwing to the wrong base and that cost them several runs and extra outs. There also were a few infield popups that were not caught because they were misjudged or players got a poor jump on the ball. These mistakes are mostly due to the teams' inexperience and hopefully they are learning from these situations.
The offense was better as there was a little more of an “attack” mentality in this game.
Devon Harrison led the team with and outstanding 3 for 3 game which included her second home run of the season and 2 RBI's.
Thanda Kyaw was at it again frustrating defenses with her ability to slap or drag the ball and use her speed to beat the throw to 1
st base. She went 2 for 3 and also scored a run as did
Casey Lee who was 1 for 3.
Jocelyn Shoemake also went 1 for 3.
