ELSAH, ILL. -- The Principia women's tennis team remains undefeated in conference play after a 9-0 win over Webster. The Panthers handed Webster their first loss of the conference and the season. The toughest competition for our players was at #3 singles.
Kelly Adams needed three sets to capture the win. Kelly played steady baseline tennis and most of the points in the three set consisted of rallys over 12 shots. It took almost three hours to complete the win in extremely cold temperatures, 43 degrees, and under the new lights on Morey Courts. The other singles matches were hard fought but the Principia players defeated their opponents in straight sets barely giving up two games a set.
The Principia doubles teams all won. At #1 doubles,
Sarah Corbitt came back from love-40 on her serve to win a crucial game at 4-3. After winning that game the #1 duo went on to win the next four games handedly.
Olivia Ikuma and
Justine Roy had a 7-3 lead before the Webster duo came back to win two games. At 7-5, our Principia team hit aggressive returns enabling them to break serve for the win.
The Women's team takes on Division II Lindenwood, St Charles on Saturday at 10:15. It should be a strong test for the team helping to prepare them for the conference championships the following weekend. The team's final home match is at 4:30 next Wednesday against conference opponent Eureka College.
