Panther battle leads to exciting finish but to no avail

Panther battle leads to exciting finish but to no avail

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ELSAH, ILLINOIS

Greenville – 15           Principia – 1
This was just one of those games that happens every once in a while where nothing seems to go right.  The team came out prepared, the effort was there, they never quit but the game got away on them early and got beyond reach quickly.  All three facets of the game struggled, defense, offense and pitching and when all three struggle the outcome is not usually very good. Recently the team has been doing a lot of work about consistency and perseverance so it will be interesting to see what happens in the second game of this double header.
Thanda Kyaw continued her consistent offensive output going 2 for 3.  Casey Lee, Devon Harrison, Christine Nacewicz and Tori Cheatham all got a hit.  Casey also got hit by a pitch and scored a run while Christine had the teams only RBI.

Greenville – 5             Principia – 4    In 8 Innings
This was a complete turnaround from game one.  The effort continued to be good but this time the results were so much better.  It is a testament to this team that they can come right back from such a lop-sided score in game one to play so well in game 2.  They were in a position to win this one but it managed to slip away in extra innings.
They gave up 2 runs in the second on 2 errors but bounced back with 4 runs of their own in the 4th.  The game went into extra innings after Principia left the winning run at 3rd with 1 out in the 7th.  Greenville managed to score a run in the top of the 8th and Principia left the tying run at 2nd.  This was a really good game and hopefully the ever resilient Principia squad can use to build on.
Casey Lee, who pitched a very strong 5 innings went 1 for 4 on offense as did Devon Harrison who also scored a run.  Marianna Distel and Tori Cheatham each had a hit and Marianna had 2 RBI's.  Kelsey Whitney continued to sacrifice her body getting hit by a pitch for the 6th time in the last 6 games.  She scored a run as a result of getting on base.
