Principia Basketball Comes Up Short Against Eureka College

Box Score EUREKA, ILL.-- The Principia Men's basketball team played Eureka College on Saturday afternoon and lost by the final score of 87 - 76. It was a closely contested game throughout with Eureka holding a slim one point lead at halftime. With about 10 minutes left in the second half, Eureka went white hot from the 3 point line and broke the game open to take a double digit lead. Although Principia fought back, they were not able to overcome the torrid 3 point shooting of Eureka. The Red Devils finished the second half making 9 out of 14 attempts from beyond the line-64%. Although Principia scored one more basket than Eureka for the night, they could not overcome the three pointers and the fact that Eureka's agressive style earned them 11 more free throws for the game. The Panthers shot great from the charity stripe, making 8 for 8. Eureka also shot well from the line making 17 of 19. Principia had 9 steals to Eureka's 4, but Eureka out rebounded the Panthers 39 to 26. Principia was led by senior captain Kenny Sydness with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Justin Ball, Larry Patterson, and Matt Jones were also in double figures for the Panthers. Principia will next travel to Fontbonne University on Tuesday night for a conference game starting at 8:00.
