ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Tonight the Principia Women's Basketball team traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the Fontbonne University Griffins. After starting the game hot and taking an early 5 point lead, foul difficulty put the Panthers in a bind, allowing the game to slip away. The Griffins beat the Panthers 69-46.
At the start of the game, Principia came out with an offensive focus on their first three offensive sets. Rachel Perea started out with a post move for a lay up, followed by her making 2 free throws, and Karina Olsen making a nice lay up. However, Perea picked up 3 early fouls, and Olsen and Becca DeNicholas had 2 early fouls as well. The game slowly started to slip through the hands of the Panthers as they were down 16 at half.Â
In the second half, the Panthers played relatively even until about the 12 minute mark, when they went on a run to cut the lead to 12. Unfortunately it did not get any closer than that as the Griffins put the Panthers away.
Some notable performances by the Panthers were turned in by Karina Olsen, Spencer Randolph, and Becca DeNicholas. Olsen finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Randolph finished with a game high 15 points and 3 steals. DeNicholas finished with 8 points and an impressive 4 steals.Â
The Panthers next game is Senior Day on Saturday, February 22nd at 1PM. We hope that all our fans will join us at this celebration for our lone senior, Hayley Cooke!
