Panthers drop twin bill to Griffins

Game One

On a cold and windy afternoon the Panthers traveled to Shaw Park to take on the Griffin's and fell in game one 6-0. In game one Junior Gavin Thomas got the start and pitched a complete game going 7 innings striking out three and scattering eight hits. Gavin pitched a strong game and kept the Panthers within striking distance. Defensively the Panthers played a strong game highlighted by plays by Spencer Clevenger, Christian Thomas, and Dallen Russell.

The Panthers couldn't muster much offense of the day and ended with one hit by Dallen Russell. Fontbonne University's starting pitcher Jacob Becker pitched a one hitter and kept the Panther hits off balance.

Game Two

The Panthers again played tough in game two, but dropped the contest 7-1. Offensively the Panther put together nine hits, but only could score one run. Freshman Bryce Murray and Senior Spencer Clevenger lead the offensive attack both finishing with two hits. Bryce drove in the Panthers lone run with an RBI single in the 7th. Ed Bargmann, Christian Thomas, Dallen Russell, Connor Coyne, and Scott Ross all contributed a hit.

Defensively the Panthers were not as sharp in game two committing five errors, but still made some solid plays in the field. Freshman Sawyer Grow got the start and went five innings. The Panthers got a strong effort from the bullpen as Tyler Nichoson, Jemlok Farson, and Parker Tibbets each hurled a scoreless inning in relief. The bullpen was able to keep the Panthers within striking distance. The Panthers will be back in action this weekend starting with a non-conference doubleheader against St. Louis Christian Friday March 28th with first pitch at 5pm.
