Panthers Overcome Slow Start Defeat Red Lions 14-4

The Panthers overcame a slow start scoring 11 runs in the 8th inning to defeat Lincoln Christian Red Lions 14-4. The Panthers trailed 4-3 entering the 8th inning, but mounted a comeback. Christian Thomas leadoff the inning with a base hit and then stole second base. Bryce Murray reached on a bunt single and then Luke Ball was hit with a pitch to load the bases. Ed Bargmann doubled in two runs. The Panthers scored their third run on a pass ball. With one out Gavin Thomas singled in a run and then Hunter Mehring got hit by a pitch. Scott Ross singled in two runs. Christian Thomas followed with a walk, Bryce Murray was hit by a pitch, and then Luke Ball singled in two runs. Ed Bargmann had his second hit of the inning as he singled in another run. The Panthers scored their next run on a bases loaded walk to Spencer Clevenger, and then Ed Bargmann scored on a passed ball to end the game.

Junior Gavin Thomas threw a complete game going 8 innings, scattering 8 hits, allowing 3 earned runs, and struck out 10. After the fourth inning Gavin settled in keeping the Red Lions scoreless the final three innings of the game and pitching out of a bases loaded jam. Gavin earned his first pitching victory of the season.

Offensively, the Panthers had multiple players with multiple hits. Ed Bargmann finished 3 for 6 with 3 RBI's and a stolen base. Gavin Thomas, Dallen Russell, Hunter Mehring, Bryce Murray and Like Ball each finished with two hits. Scott Ross and Christian Thomas also contributed a hit. The Panthers are back in action Friday May 2nd at home as they take on Greenville College in their final conference series. First pitch is slated for 6pm as senior Scott Ross takes the mound for the Panthers.
