A tough day for volleyball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Jacksonville, ILL. -- The Panthers volleyball team competed against Illinois College and IIT in the IC Tourney. Principia lost to Illinois College in three, and to IIT in four games.

Illinois College played strong and hit .398 as a team for the match. IC only had 6% error offensively, and they were tight on defense making it hard for the Panthers to kill the ball. Prin put down 31 balls to IC's 40 and were at a higher than normal 14% error. IC played fast and Principia worked hard to keep the pace bold too, but in the end IC controlled the tempo and execution.  Emily Tippetts led the offensive charge putting down 9 kills with only 1 error (.667). Sierra Sprague ( 7 kills / .227) and Molly Moser (5 kills / .200) were effective as well. Sophia posted three service aces and Deanna Scheck, Mia gill and Cha Cha Fisher each added an ace as well.

IIT was a different match. Both teams had a hard time killing the ball, but the difference seemed to be IIT's defense didn't let as many balls through as Prin did. Prin won every category of the match except digging. IIT just did a better job of keeping the ball flying, and good things happen when you boldly pursue the ball on defense.  Sophia Hathaway had a strong outing with 19 kills and only 2 errors hitting .327. Freshmen Makena Patterson stepped in to hit today, and she racked up 4 kills, and Sara Stephenson contributed five kills. Sierra Sprague served up four aces, Mia Gill three, Sophia two, and Cha Cha Fisher one. Mia Gill picked up a match high 30 digs.

Prin plays Iowa Wesleyan tomorrow at 1:00pm. Come on down to Hay Fieldhouse to cheer them on!
