Box Score Jacksonville, ILL. -- The Prin volleyball team competed boldly and as one, and came away with a 3-0 victory over MacMurray. The first weekend of the season Prin lost to MacMurray at a tournament. Three weeks ago the Panthers beat the Highlanders in a nail-biter five game match. Today – 25-22, 25-19, 25-17!
The team had a nice focus in warm up, and came together in that unified focus for the match. The team showed a nice IQ in the midst of soulful play! Game one was back and forth until 13-13, and then Prin pulled away from Mac with several hard fought "in-a-rows". Despite six service errors, the Panthers only had one hitting error, and they were patient on offense, and did a nice job of taking advantage of ka-boom opportunities.
Sophia Hathaway put down 7 kills! Principia held the lead for all of game two. Although there were five team hitting errors,
Sierra Sprague was hot with 6 kills and zero errors. Game three showed Prin in the lead the whole way as well. The Panthers were strong with only 1 hitting error, and the offense evened out with 4 kills from Sprague, three from
Molly Moser, and two from both
Emily Tippetts and Hathaway.
Overall Sophia and Sierra each contributed 10 kills, and Sierra was error free posting a team high .385 hitting percentage. Emily and Molly each put down 5 kills, and Emily was error free hitting .313.
Noelle Shoemake served up two aces, and Sophia and Emily tallied a couple of blocks.
Senior Night is this Tuesday!! The team takes on SLIAC leader Greenville, and will celebrate seniors
Molly Moser,
Deanna Scheck and
Sierra Sprague just before the match at 7:00pm. We'd love to have you there!
