Men's Basketball moves to 3-0 with win over Lincoln Christian

Box Score Lincoln, Ill- The Principia Panthers put their undefeated record on the line today as they traveled to Lincoln, Illinois to play Lincoln Christian College. The Panthers were excited about the challenge in front of them, as they were looking to stretch their record to 3-0. Although sluggish for the first 25 minutes of the game, Principia was able to gain control of the game midway through the second half. They eventually pulled away from Lincoln Christian, coming away with a 71-58 victory.

Despite holding a 6-8 point lead throughout most of the first half, Principia was unable to shake Lincoln Christian. Two free throws from Kaylin Hernandez Beiner stretched the lead to 10 with 3 minutes and 10 seconds left in the first half. However, Lincoln Christian continued to battle, eventually cutting the lead to 5 as the first half ended with a 32-27 lead from the Panthers.

The beginning of the second half wan not much better for the Panthers, as Lincoln Christian eventually regained a 1 point lead with 16:30 left in the game. A minute stretch that included a Larry Patterson three pointer and a two and three pointer for Adaku Anumu pushed the lead to 7. This was a lead that the Panthers would never relinquish. Principia started taking the ball to the rack and scoring with relative ease. After the Panthers stopped settling for three pointers, they were able to take complete control of the game. Jeff Ross continually got to the rim and was a major presence down low for Principia.

The Panthers 71-58 win showcased a renewed effort on the defensive end, as they forced Lincoln Christian into many tough shots at the end of the shot clock.

Top performers for the Panthers were Adaku Anumu, again leading the way with 28 points. Jeff Ross finished 8/10 from the field, with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. And Larry Patterson was excellent again at the point guard position, coming away with 13 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Finally, both Kaylin Beiner Hernandez and Jonathan Ansumana scored their first regular season collegiate points.

Principia is now 3-0 and will turn their attention to Millikin University in preparation for their game on Tuesday, November 24th. The game starts at 7:00 PM in Hay Field House! We hope to see you there!
