Tough loss for Principia Men's Soccer

Box Score Elsah, ILL. -- Eureka! The Principia Panthers did not bring their best game today and the result was a tough loss to the Devils of Eureka. The Panthers started off on a strong scoring in the first 15 minutes. A corner kick put in by Briggs Hurley found the back of the net by Carson Hussey. The Panthers did not keep the pedal to the floor though and soon thereafter Eureka put in their first goal of the game. Before halftime the Panthers had conceded another goal putting them down 2-1 at half.

The second half the Panthers came out stronger against a Eureka team that sat back. But a poor clearance resulted in a quick trigger finish from yet another Eureka player putting them safely in the lead 3-1. The Panthers relentlessly attacked but without the ability to find the net. In the final 3 minutes a foul was called over by the corner. Again Hurley put the ball into the box where almost every player stood. Pierson Gill got his foot on it in the melee and it slid into the far corner. The Panthers threw what more they had left but simply could not find the equalizer.

Tonight the Panthers highlighted the teams' two seniors - Ross Johnson and Ben Stolfa. With parents in tow, they had tributes read to the them at halftime. Thank you to both of you for all you've done for Principia Men's Soccer.

Tuesday, Principia travels to Blackburn to play one of its final two games of the season.
