Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Lousville, KY. -- Principia beat MacMurray in three straight sets to secure the season sweep against the Highlanders. The Panthers lost to Spalding to finish 1-1 on the season with the Golden Eagles.
Principia took the court against MacMurray first today, and was in solid control of the match from the get-go. The Panthers served aggressively and came away with 10 aces –
Mia Gill and
Cha Cha Fisher each tallied three. The Panther passers did a nice job in serve receive with everyone passing 2.2 and above (out of 3.0). Tough serving and nice passing led the way to an effective offense with the team hitting .263 -
Emily Tippetts leading the efforts hitting .423 and
Sara Stephenson with 2 kills out of as many swings hitting 1000! The Panther defense stayed focused with the entire backcourt picking up the digs and
Sophia Hathaway, Tippetts, and
Rachel Proctor each posting 2 blocks. Sophia was good for a double-double killing 10 and digging 10!
Next the Panthers took on Spalding – a team that has been rising in the rankings all season long. They are big, hard hitting, and very competitive. The Panthers knew their game plan here, and worked it well. In the end the Panther offense lacked depth, and that made it hard to create the offense needed to put the ball down before Spalding. The Panther defense got stronger as the day went on, and kept the ball flying longer, but Prin's offense didn't quite match up to Spalding.
Devon Marunde,
Nikki Matters, and Hathaway each joined the 100% serving club here, which was important without many Panther aces to level the field. Matters was stellar passing 2.7 (out of 3.0), and the rest of the ball control team was right there as well with Cha Cha, Mia, and Sophia all passing 2.3 or higher! Cha Cha, Nikki and Mia showed great tenacity as they dug the best Spalding had to give – each with 9 digs. Offensively Sophia killed 43% of the balls she touched with only 1 error, and Emily put down 39% with only 2 errors. Sara had another 2 swings / 2 kills outing hitting 1000! As a team Prin hit .171 which wasn't good enough to compete for the victory over Spalding.
The women played bold and supported each other well. This match was for building a bridge to next year, and making sure we went after it with intentionality and joy. Check!
The women finish up their season in St. Louis against Harris-Stowe Tuesday at 7pm.
