Principia Women's Soccer blanks Iowa Wesleyan 5-0

Box Score Mount Pleasant, IA. -- The Principia women's soccer team traveled to Mount Pleasant, Iowa today for their game against Iowa Wesleyan.

Principia came out strong, scoring in the first five minutes of the game with a breakaway goal by Rachel Perea. Principia scored two more goals quickly after the first, one by Sarai Marcano who ripped a shot from the top of the 18, and the next by Perea who slotted the ball in the top right corner on her second breakaway run. The fourth goal was scored by Laura Cluthe who, throughout the game, continued to make quick, penetrating runs through the Iowa defense, creating many scoring opportunities. Up 4-0, Principia brought in fresh legs off the bench to play for the remainder of the first and second half.

The women dominated the rest of the game and were able to add to the score board one more time with a second goal by Laura Cluthe off of an assisted cross by Annika Friborg. The game ended with a 5-0 score.

Special recognition goes to Taylor MacIntire and Katie Swarts for making their season debuts on the field, and for their tenacious and consistent effort in unfamiliar positions.

Principia's next game is at home against Webster University this upcoming Saturday, the 15th at 1:00 pm.
