Box Score Rolla, MO —With great excitement the Panthers opened the season on the road tonight against Division 2 opponent, Missouri S&T. The Panthers came out of the gate with great energy and were able to keep up with the Miners from S&T for the first 12 minutes of the game. Unfortunately, S&T's pressure eventually wore down the Panthers, and they were unable to sustain their play over the course of 40 minutes. Principia fell 104-65.
The first half fight was highlighted by an 8-2 run when Freshman
Jamie McFarlane and Sophomore
Micah Paulson hit back-to-back 3 pointers followed by a basket by
Brennan Paulson to tie the game at 20-20.
Principia would struggle to score after the run, as the Minors pushed the ball in transition and generated 12 Panther turnovers in the first half. The Panthers offense came together a little more in the second half as
Adaku Anumu,
TreVaughn Goodman, and
Parker Davidson all scored multiple buckets.
Micah Paulson led the way for the panthers with 17 points and 7 assists. TreVaugnh Goodman chipped in with 11 and
Jeff Ross led the team with 6 rebounds while picking up 2 points.
The Panthers solid free throw shooting picked up where it left off last season as they went 11 of 13 from the charity stripe.
Up nex,t the Panthers travel to Waukesha, Wisconsin to play in the Carroll University Tip Off Classic. They will play the host Carroll University on Friday Night at 7 pm and St. Scholastica the following afternoon at 1 pm.
