Elsah, IllThis morning, the Principia Women's Tennis Team took on Lewis and Clark in an early season matchup. The Panthers started off hot in doubles, winning all three matches to take the 3-0 lead. The Panthers used their momentum from doubles to take five out of six singles matches, earning the 8-1 victory over Lewis and Clark.
At 1st doubles,
Paige Cooley and
Caitlin Carney dictated play and put their opponents on their heels. Strong serving and solid net play earned them easy points, allowing them to cruise to the 8-1 victory. At 2nd doubles,
Justine Roy and
Lena Carlson were steady from the baseline and took advantage of short returns in looking to attack. The match was close throughout, but they pulled away late, winning 8-5. At 3rd doubles,
Anh Vu and
Nathalie DeLoach were aggressive throughout. The dominated the baseline rallies and were able to finish the point at net with a great amount of overheads. They finished off their opponents with another 8-5 victory.
After doubles concluded,
Paige Cooley jumped right into her 1st singles match. Cooley was steady throughout, as her heavy groundstrokes dictated play. She was able to move her opponent and win the points with a blend of superb power and control. Cooley won 6-2, 6-1. At 2nd singles,
Justine Roy refused to give an inch to her opponent. She fought for every point, earning the 6-2, 6-1 win.
At 3rd singles,
Caitlin Carney played with determination after losing the first set. Carney decided to dig in and cut out her unforced errors and it worked as she won the final two sets with ease. Carney came away with the 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory. At 4th and 5th singles, both
Lena Carlson and
Anh Vu played with composure and power from the baselines. Carlson won 6-2, 6-0 and Vu won 6-4, 6-1.
Overall, it was a great match for the Principia Women's Tennis Team as they enter the final week of practice before their matches in California over Spring Break.
