The match was even at four all when #6 singles player,
Claire Horton, fought back to take the second set and even up the score. The match would be decided in a third set super tiebreaker. The breaker was tied at 3-3 but then Concordia's #6 took charge of the match by coming to net and putting away volleys and overheads. She closed out the match 10-7.
Principia was the first to get on the scoreboard when the #1 doubles duo,
Paige Cooley and
Caitlin Carney won their match with strong returns from both player and several aces from Paige. At #2 doubles,
Anh Vu and
Hanne Andersen fell behind 6-3 and climbed back with aggressive play and strong volleys to take the lead 7-6. They were not able to break the opponents serve and then lost their own. Concordia held serve to take the match 9-7. Principia's #3 duo,
Lena Carlson and
Justine Roy, did not get into a rhythm and lost their doubles, 8-2.
Going into the singles matches Principia was behind 1-2.
Paige Cooley, #1 singles, used her strong baseline game to push her opponent around the court and picked up a quick win without losing a game.
Hanne Andersen, #2 singles, returned to the courts for her first match of the season and defeated her opponent with mixture of power and placement.
Justine Roy, #3 singles, secured a win through steady ground strokes. She also came into the net and closed out many points with overhead smashes.
After the doubles and completion of the first 3 singles matches Principia was ahead 4-2, and the bottom three singles matches were close. Principia #4 singles,
Caitlin Carney, split sets but lost the third set Tie-breaker 10-7.
Lena Carlson, #5 singles, played an exciting match winning points from all areas of the court but she did not string together enought points and games to win the match and lost in two tough sets. The complete match scores are below.
