Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Elsah, ILL. -- The Panthers lost in three straight sets to Westminster, but game one (20-25) and game three (23-25) showed the heart and soul of Principia Volleyball 2016 as they stuck to their game-plan and competed for every point. Freshman setter
Devon Marunde did a great job of running our offense and showed her athleticism in defense and pursuit of the ball to keep our offense in system.
Westminster is a hard hitting team, and Principia showed they were capable of slowing balls down with their block and picking up the hard hits in the backrow too. The Bluejays killed 28% of the balls while Principia killed 24%, but the tables were turned as the Bluejays posted 16% error offensively compared to Principia's 7%.
Emily Tippetts and
Sophia Hathaway were the leaders of the pack again with Emily being error free and tallying 6 kills, and Sophia adding 8 kills of her own.
Mia Gill was solid passing 2.2 (out of 3.0), and she served up an ace as well.
Emma Herman, Sophia, and
Nikki Matters were all members of the 100% serving club today, and Emma recorded an ace. The Panthers had a balanced defensive effort with Emma picking up 13 digs, Sophia and Devon 10 apiece, Mia 9, and
Cha Cha Fisher and
Nikki Matters both with 6.
Principia beat Blackburn in 3 straight games, and cleared the bench with all 15 players contributing beautifully on the court.
Victoria Vandiver was smooth hitting .400 from outside and the right. She was also 100% from the service line.
Makena Patterson added a couple of kills of her own, and
Amanda Roberts was stellar in the backcourt with perfect 3.0 passing!
Anna Webster was tenacious defensively picking up 6 digs. The 100% serving club consisted of Victoria, Anna, Sophia, Nikki, Cha Cha, and Emma – the biggest yet!
The Panthers are now 4-4, and play in St. Louis at Fontbonne this Tuesday, and then travel to Illinois College for a non-conference tournament next weekend.
