Box Score FULTON---The Panthers travelled to Westminster earlier tonight to take on the conference leading Blue Jays. Despite a solid defensive effort the Panthers couldn't generate enough offense and fell to the Jays 67-51.
Â
The Panthers got off to a slow start and didn't score their first bucket till the 14:56 mark when junior
Parker Davidson took it to the basket and converted on a layup. One possession later senior
Justin Ball hit a short jumper on a pass from freshman
TreVaughn Goodman to cut the lead to three points.Â
Â
Halfway through the first the score was just 14-8 as both teams were playing strong defense and struggling to find an offensive rhythm. With 9:22 left in the first period senior
Adaku Anumu hit a deep ball to cut the lead in half making it 14-11. As the latter stages of the first half progressed the Blue Jays steadily built a lead. The Panthers managed to keep it relatively close but couldn't break even and went into halftime trailing 28-22.Â
Â
Out of the break the Blue Jays went on an 8-3 run grabbing a double digit lead. The Panthers were forced to call a timeout to stop the onslaught and responded with some steady play. Over the next couple of minutes the Panthers got buckets from Davidson and junior
Jeff Ross to cut the lead to five. After clawing back and minimalziing the deficit the Panthers couldn't hold it together and Westminster's lead ballooned back over double digits.Â
Â
After the 13:44 mark the Panthers only cut the lead under double digits once more, which happened when freshman
Jamie McFarlane hit a 3-pointer to make the score 49-41 with 7:53 left to play. It was all Westminster after that as they cruised for the the final stretch with the lead getting as high as 20. It was a tough loss for the Panthers but they will have an opportunity to bounce back Saturday.Â
Â
Davidson led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double marked his 4th in his last 5 games. Sophomore
Micah Paulson scored 13 points to go along with 4 assists and 3 steals. Ball chipped in with 10 points and 9 rebounds.Â
Â
Up next the Panthers travel to Louisville to take on the Spalding Golden Eagles who they defeated 65-54 back on November 29th.Â
