Elsah, ILL. -- What a beautiful day for Homecoming. With festivities filling the campus all day long, thousands of people have wandered the grounds.
Principia women's soccer hosted Iowa Wesleyan in a conference match-up this afternoon. A much improved Iowa Wesleyan showed up, but the Panthers wanted to represent and came out strong.
Principia found the back of the net early on with a goal by
Emma Dixon within moments of being put on the field, assisted by
Clarice Bruch. Bruch then found herself finding the back of the net on a beautiful slicing pass from
Madison Arens. Four more goals would follow in the first half: Arens with a left-footed drive, Alex Weitman to the upper 90, Dixon with her second drilled to the side netting and
Lindsay Clarke with a ball too high and tough for the keeper. Iowa Wesleyan's keeper did make several good saves including a kick-save as she worked hard to keep her team in the game.
The second half included continued hard work by the Tigers but Principia held strong. The Panthers moved the ball well in the second half but did not put one in the back of the net.
They said it:
"As we continue to play teams who we are a little bit stronger than, it is important to stay disciplined and continue to work on the little things so when we come against opponents stronger than we are, we are prepared."
