Elsah, ILL. -- Harris Stowe was a high jumping, hard hitting athletic group, and that was a perfect challenge for the Panthers as they strive to grow even grittier on defense and to become more effective on offense. Principia made it difficult on themselves in game one with 5 service errors, but a few too many HSU unforced errors gave the Panthers a free boost that allowed them to finish what they started 25-20. Game two started with
Sophia Hathaway creating chaos for HSU with good serving, and then Principia climbed from there for a clear cut 25-15 win. Game three had several lead changes, with HSU executing well and willing to get dirty on defense as well. Coach Sprague called her first timeout of the match at 19-21 and let the women look in each other's eyes and articulate what needed to happen. They were right on, and they went on the court and played the way they needed to, erasing the deficit and grabbing the win 25-22.
Inside the Box Score
They said it
Cha Cha Fisher is everyone's best supporter. She loves this team and she has done whatever it takes to support the team and increase her impact for good. As a second year captain, Cha Cha has made sure the group is on the same page logistically, and consistently been there when anyone needed a listening ear or a kick in the butt. Cha Cha is a very hard worker, and this year she (and partner
Devon Marunde) won the annual Grit and Grace Games – a series of 4 days of events that demand physical and mental strength and great partner support and push. Cha Cha's four years have shown dedication and progress – lots of progress. This year, already, she has racked up 7 times the kills she had her freshman year, and she has picked up 5 times the number of digs! She is also #2 in service aces for the team.
All of that volleyball stuff is fine, but Cha Cha is so much more. She leads by example – working hard on the court and in the classroom. Her embrace is huge – as an RA, in student government and always with her teammates. She is super involved, but ALWAYS has the time to listen to a friend and will always bring a smile to your face. Cha Cha is all-in with whatever she says yes to, and her energy is infectious. She lives her life according to Principle, and her integrity and authenticity make everyone want to be around her.
Thank you Cha Cha for blessing us and inspiring us! You have made this volleyball program better. You are a brick in the foundation of Principia College volleyball. We will take what you have given us and move forward.
