Elsah, ILL. -- Principia Men's Soccer hosted Greenville College in a battle of the Panthers on Saturday afternoon. A constant downpour of rain provided for a sloppy and scrappy match. Principia came out of the gates firing and looked to score early with a high press and quick counters. Kaleb Keller was able to break down the defense and was fouled in the box at the 15 minute mark. Briggs Hurley stepped to the penalty kick mark and calmly knocked in the goal for the early 1-0 lead. The wet conditions provided to be a major factor throughout the game. Greenville was able to even it up at 1-1 just minutes later off of poor handling by the Principia keeper. Principia was able to dominate the half with chance after chance finally putting in another goal in the 37th minute. Kaden Keller crossed in a dangerous ball right at the keeper where David McLeod-Warrick was able to out jump the keeper and hammer home the header. Just a few minutes later just before half Kaleb Keller fired in a free kick that the keeper mishandled and David Mcleod-Warrick was able to clean up for a third goal.
Principia held this 3-1 lead for most of the second half as the conditions had flipped in favor of Greenville. Unfortunately they were not to finish any of the chances in the second half, but were able to take the game 3-2 and ultimately a fantastic 3-0 start in conference play this season.
Good To Know:
Principia controlled and were the aggressors for the majority of the game, out shooting the Greenville Panthers 24-13 for the game. David Mcleod-Warrick continues to show his versatility with two more goals out of the left back position.
They Said It:
"Once again we played a dominant first half and took control of the game right off the bat, but we need to focus on the full 90 minutes and put teams away. Each game we get better and look to keep the good going."
